Security is a top priority for most businesses, particularly as the current coronavirus crisis continues to develop.
Many businesses, especially those in the retail sector, have been forced to close their doors and go into lockdown as the Government tries to control the spread of Covid-19.
If you have shut your office or retail premises temporarily as your staff work from home, having the right security measures in place is a must, both to protect your property but also ward off would-be intruders.
Around nine million crimes are committed against businesses annually, with the vast majority being either burglary, theft or criminal damage.
So, if you are worried about your property during the current crisis, here are a few top window security tips for businesses…
Close all your windows and roof lights
This one might seem obvious, but trust us, it’s easy to rush out of the office and forget to check that everything’s locked or assume that someone else has taken care of it. Unsecured windows and doors are the prime reason behind most break-ins and burglaries on commercial premises, so make sure you gave a good scout around and ensure everything is locked and secure before you leave.
Install window locks
While your windows may already have locks, you can boost your window security by installing additional after-market window locks and safety measures to add an extra layer of protection.
These will not only help make your windows feel more secure, they will also look more secure, adding an extra visual deterrent to would-be intruders.
Consider security grilles
Security grilles are a great way of adding extra protection to your windows. They are easy to install, provide a strong visual deterrent and can be stowed out of the way when not in use.
Best of all, they allow plenty of light and fresh air in, so if you are still at work and practicing social distancing, or working in isolation at the moment, they are a good way of letting the air circulate around your premises to help protect your employees’ health and wellbeing as well as their safety.
Security Bars
Security bars are fixed to the side of your building. They are strong, durable and robust and provide a high-level of additional security. If you are leaving your premises locked and unoccupied for long periods, security bars are arguably one of the most effective measures on the market.
However, they are time-consuming to install, so if you have had to lockdown your premises at short notice, they may not be the right solution for you at this time.
Roller shutters
Again, roller shutters are a highly effective security measure which provide a strong visual deterrent while keeping your premises safe and secure.
But, like security bars, they can take a bit of time to install, so may not be the best solution to install while your business is in lockdown.
